As per a report from the Daily Mail, Arsenal are considering a summer swoop for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Diogo Jota.
Wolves standout
Versatile 23-year-old Jota has long-established himself as one of the key members of Nuno Espirito Santo’s talented squad.
The Portuguese attacker initially made the move to Molineux on loan from Atletico Madrid in 2017, with Jota’s stellar showings over the campaign that followed having eventually seen Wolves opt to make his arrival permanent the following summer.
And this decision has since proven fully vindicated, with the twice-capped international having carried his fine form onto the Premier League stage.
Jota’s partnership alongside Raul Jimenez has emerged as one of the English top-flight’s most feared over over the last couple of season, a key component in Wolves’ push to crack the top-6.
To this point in the 2019/20 campaign, the former Porto man has directly contributed to an impressive 21 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Arsenal switch?
As per the aforementioned report from the Daily Mail, though, Wolves could face a fight to keep hold of their attacking star this summer.
This comes amid claims that Premier League rivals Arsenal have set their sights on Jota ahead of next season.
The Gunners are said to be on the lookout for reinforcements in wide areas, with the Portuguese technician having emerged as a serious target.
Such a swoop, though, could be dependent on Mikel Arteta’s men securing European football for the 2020/21 campaign, with Wolves currently sitting 3 places clear of Arsenal in the Premier League table.
It also remains unclear how much the board at Molineux would demand for Jota’s signature, but considering both the 23-year-old’s age and ability, he is unlikely to be available on the cheap.
