Arsenal progressed to the quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup despite a disappointing display against League One Portsmouth.
Mikel Arteta’s side were particularly poor in the first half and were forced to see off several dangerous attacks from their hosts, while they also saw Lucas Torreira stretchered off with a knee injury.
The resulting added time proved helpful to the Gunners though as they took the lead in the fourth minute of time added on, Sokratis guiding Reiss Nelson’s cross into the bottom right corner with a well-taken volley.

Their lead was doubled soon after the break through Eddie Nketiah, scoring in a second successive FA Cup game, when he took down Nelson’s cross before turning the ball home from a tight angle.
That goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of a Pompey, who had started the game the brighter side, and they offered little in way of a response.
Bukayo Sako came closest to extending the lead when he forced Alex Bass to tip a shot over the bar, but the two goals were enough in the end as Arsenal comfortably saw the game out.
