Sunderland’s winless run extended to three games on Saturday in the worst possible circumstances.
The Black Cats must have thought they had the game won as the game ticked past the 90-minute mark, but Gillingham had an ace up their sleeve as they netted a last-minute equaliser to break the home supporters’ hearts.
However, despite the devastating late strike, there was one huge positive to take away from Saturday’s 2-2 draw.
Kyle Lafferty started his first game for the Wearside outfit, and he made a brilliant impact, netting twice for his new club.

Phil Parkinson has been desperate for a goal scorer all season, with Charlie Wyke and Will Grigg netting just six goals between them, and it seems as though the manager’s prayers have been answered in the shape of Lafferty.
It may have only been one performance, but many supporters are already convinced that he’s better than Wyke.

Others reacted very brashly, stating that he has to be a starter from now until the end of the season.
Whether or not the striker becomes Parkinson’s first-choice remains to be seen, but one would think that he’s at least his secured his spot in next week’s team.
One more thought before the drive home. Lafferty has to start from now on. Two goals that should’ve won us the game, and he offered far more than Wyke as a target-man. He’s our line-leader. #SAFC 🔴⚪️
