‘A man, a team player’ – Jose Mourinho hails Ben Davies with social media explanation for Spurs star’s injury

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho this evening took to the comments section of the club’s official social media post regarding the injury picked up by Ben Davies, to hail the stopper’s commitment.

Spurs back on track

Mourinho and co. were of course back in action on Sunday, in a Premier League showdown with Aston Villa.

The north Londoners headed into proceedings in desperate search of a bounce back result, having seen their European adventure brought to an end in embarrassing fashion just days prior.

In turn, Spurs were aware that nothing but a 3-point haul would suffice at Villa Park, to keep alive the club’s fading Champions League hopes.

And, to their credit, secure all 3 points is precisely what the Lilywhites went on to do.

A solid display eventually saw goals from Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane make the difference, to guide Mourinho and co. to within 3 points of the Premier League’s top-4.

‘A man, a team player’

One concern for Tottenham on an otherwise positive evening on Sunday, however, came on the personnel front.

Shortly before the hour-mark, Sergio Reguilon went to ground with an injury problem, before eventually being forced to limp off.

Ben Davies, in turn, was introduced in the Spaniard’s place.

As revealed earlier today, however, Davies too has now picked up a fitness problem, in a concerning development for Spurs at left-back.

The capital giants confirmed the news in a post across their social media platforms, revealing that the stopper has been forced to pull out of Wales’ squad for their upcoming round of World Cup qualifiers:

The general assumption was therefore that Davies suffered his setback amid his half-hour cameo at Villa Park over the weekend.

If the latest social media activity on the part of none other than his manager is anything to go by, though, then it appears the former Swansea man was in fact already carrying a fitness problem heading into Sunday’s clash.

Taking to the comments section of Spurs’ Instagram post regarding Davies’ injury, Jose Mourinho posted a message of praise for his full-back, labelling him ‘a team player’, as well as suggesting that Davies took to the pitch versus Villa whilst already struggling for fitness:
