Willian ‘agrees’ 3-year Arsenal contract worth around £100,000-a-week but Everton lurk in the shadows

Willian ‘agrees’ 3-year Arsenal contract

It’s not yet been confirmed by Chelsea, Arsenal or Willian, but ESPN are calling it.

According to ESPN, Willian has agreed a 3-year Arsenal contract. Readers are told:

Sources have told ESPN that Lampard has failed to persuade the Chelsea hierarchy to sort a new contract for Willian and Mikel Arteta has stepped in to secure the midfielder.

Willian’s Arsenal wages: £100,000-a-week

ESPN further report that Willian will earn around £100,000-a-week in wages at Arsenal.

One suspects that that figure doesn’t including any bonuses which may also feature in the Brazilian’s contract.

Has Willian actually signed an agreement with Arsenal?

It’s unclear from the ESPN report whether Willian has actually put pen to paper on any contract with Arsenal. In all likelihood, that’s not the case.

However, readers are given a timeframe for when the deal could become official:

(Willian’s) move (is) expected to be announced later this month.

Of course, Chelsea are still in the Champions League, although they are 3-nil down to Bayern Munich.

Could Everton gazump Arsenal to signing Willian?

Probably not. However, ESPN also claimed that Everton have also been in the market to sign Willian:

Willian’s agent Kia Joorabchian claimed last week his client had five clubs interested in signing him, including two in the Premier League.

Sources have told ESPN that Everton were also keen on Willian.

It’s unclear how far Everton got in the pursuit for Willian.

Did they actually present the Brazilian with an offer?

We’ve previously reported that Everton would like to sign a winger before the start of next season.
