Why Amad Diallo is unlikely to be in Man United’s squad to face West Brom

Amad Diallo appears altogether unlikely to secure a spot in Manchester United’s matchday squad to face West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

Hawthorns trip

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are set to return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon, in a meeting with the Baggies at the Hawthorns.

The Red Devils will of course head into proceedings desperate for all 3 points, having seen their fading title hopes dealt another blow at the hands of Everton last weekend.

A last-gasp Dominic Calvert-Lewin strike saw the Toffees depart Old Trafford with a share of the spoils, in the process leaving their hosts 5 points adrift of table-topping Man City, who also boast a game in hand.

Nevertheless, Solskjaer and co. will likely be confident in their chances of getting back to winning ways in the league in a little under 48 hours’ time.

This comes with the Manchester giants having booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup courtesy of a 1-0 downing of West Ham during the week, and West Brom having managed just two wins all season.

Diallo blow

As such, with it not at all unrealistic to predict that United may well be out of sight with plenty of time remaining on the clock at the Hawthorns on Sunday, there had been hope amongst the Reds faithful that they could finally be handed the opportunity to see Amad Diallo showcase his talents alongside the club’s senior stars for the first time.

Ivorian wide-man Diallo – who arrived in Manchester last month – was afforded a spot on the bench versus West Ham on Tuesday.

This came on the back of a pair of scintillating displays for the club’s U23 side, across which the teenage talent racked up 3 goals and 3 assists.

In turn, Diallo had been expected to take his place in Neil Wood’s starting XI once again this evening – with United’s academy outfit set to take on Arsenal – ahead of a potential first-team bow in 2 days’ time.

As outlined above, however, such an outcome now looks altogether unlikely.

This comes with the winter arrival at Old Trafford having been ruled out of Friday night’s action, and, in turn, potentially Sunday’s, too, after being struck down by an unspecified illness:
