Three Lions stars who did their Test team hopes no favours against the Sharks

The British and Irish Lions overcame rising coronavirus uncertainty to claim a composed eight-try 54-7 victory against the Sharks.

Organisers confirmed the game was on less than two hours before kick-off after a Lions player and a management team member tested positive.

There were plenty of standout stars for the tourists – but these three players did their chances of earning a test jersey no favours.

#1. Mako Vunipola

Pundit Arena 6/10: Vunipola was pinged in the scrum but played his role in winning a few penalties at the set-piece also. Made a few carries and tackles but certainly didn’t stand out against the Sharks.

Wales Online 6/10: Pinged at a couple of scrums in the first-half. Issues like that could be crucial come the Test series, given how Phil Vickery’s scrum woes in 2009 set the tone early on in the first Test.

Rugby Pass 4/10: Seemed to struggle with the surface and was repeatedly pinged by Peyper for collapsing. A dreadful first half of rugby by his incredibly high standards and you suspect he may have damaged his Test chances.

OFF THE BALL 5.5/10: The Lions scrum suffered against a youthful yet powerful Sharks front row, which would worry the experienced head of Vunipola. As a ball carrier, however, Vunipola will be happy with his 25 metres from four carries, especially for a powerful prop.
