Thiago fired warning by Arsenal man over ‘very ambitious’ Liverpool plans

Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara has been told a move to Liverpool won’t bring forth what he desires, according to Arsenal academy manager Per Mertesacker.

The Reds have presided over a low-key summer window so far, but that could soon be about to change.

Links with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago have strenghtened in recent weeks, though one pundit warned the transfer may face further delays.

Should the Spaniard sign, Liverpool’s already full midfield will have another contender among the ranks.

And while that area of Liverpool’s squad remains the least heralded, the tireless efforts from the likes of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum provide the foundations for the team to prosper.

Indeed, breaking into the starting eleven may not be a given for Thiago, and Mertesacker believes hoping to do so would be ‘very ambitious’.

“I can already imagine the transfer, but the midfield axis of Liverpool is set up,” Mertesacker told Goal (via The Metro)

“Getting in there is very ambitious, but he’s a top footballer who can play anywhere.

“He wouldn’t have any problems with the style of play in England either because he’s a well-trained footballer.

“Thiago has to adapt and sometimes do a 40-metre sprint to hit a central defender, but he can.

“He has to decide for himself, as he might not play a major role in the first games in Liverpool.

“There are still a few players ahead of him because of their achievements over the past two years.”

Liverpool will continue with their pre-season training camp in Austria as planned. That is despite reports that a member of the travelling party has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Premier League champions are training for the new campaign in Saalfelden in the Salzburg region.

Local media outlets reported that a member of the group had tested positive and entered isolation while awaiting further results.

Liverpool are not commenting on the matter, but it’s understood they will continue their training camp as planned. That is in line with all the protocols put in place before they travelled.
