The Premier League’s Six Nations XV – a rugby team made up of top-flight footballers

The Six Nations is almost upon us.

And as the tournament rolls on in 2020, we’ve decided (we have a habit of this) at RUCK that it would be perfectly acceptable to build a rugby team of our own…made up of footballers. We’re basing this on the qualities these players have, how physical they are, what positions would fit them best, the usual.

There’s no room for disagreements, there’s been enough of those already as we’ve built this.

15. Fullback – Ederson (Manchester City):The full-back is responsible for acting as the last line of defence and sweeping up any hopeful punts downfield. They need to be comfortable with both their hands and feet, and join attacking moves when the opportunity presents itself. It’s basically what Ederson does already.

Rugby player he kind of reminds me of: Liam Williams (Wales)

14. Winger – Jamie Vardy (Leicester City): Surprisingly quick and runs all day. Also – and we can’t overstate the importance of this in the hypothetical rugby world – years of non-league football mean he’s clearly learned how to handle himself.

Rugby player he kind of reminds me of: Jonny May (England)

13. Centre – Sead Kolasinac (Arsenal): Crash bell every single time. Also showed his balls when he took on two attackers during attempted car-jacking last summer. There’s a reason he is referred by fans as the “The Destroyer”, “The Tank”, or “The Bosnian Hulk”.

Rugby player he kind of reminds me of: Jonathan Davies (Wales)

12. Centre – Martin Dubravka (Newcastle United): In rugby, the 12 tend to be a big fella with safe hands. He can also crash through people with the ball in hand and knock opponents over when required. Step forward the toons 6ft 3in reliable goalkeeper.

Rugby player he kind of reminds me of: Robbie Henshaw (Ireland)

11. Winger – Adama Traore (Wolves): One word: SPEED. The winger would probably do more damage with a rugby ball than a football, considering his terrifying pace and strong running. His final product probably needs work, but if you create space for this guy and just tell this guy to run past a line, he could do it.

Rugby player he kind of reminds me of: Anthony Watson (England)
