“Stupidly poor” – Neil Back joins fans in blasting Genge’s ‘disrespectful’ behaviour

Leicester legend Neil Back has blasted current Tigers captain Ellis Genge for a ‘disrespectful’ video announcing his move to Bristol Bears at the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to Leicestershire Live, the 2003 World Cup winners gave his reaction, saying sternly: “It wouldn’t have happened in our day,

“The timing was stupidly poor, plus I’m also surprised that Pat Lam who took a leading role in the video thought it was ok too?

“I wonder how Pat would have felt if one of his players and/or captain posted a similar video mid-season?! It can’t be good for the dressing room?

“We all know that players come and go more frequently these days and there’s no problem with that.”

He added: “But there’s a right and wrong way to go about things. In contrast, George Ford announced he was leaving for similar reasons in a far more professional way without any of the theatre.”

Genge , who was branded classless by a number of fans, has apologised for the video on Twitter, saying: “I wholeheartedly agree it’s a fucking tough time to see it. Upon reflection I see why the fans are angry.

“Again I apologise and didn’t mean for it to come across that way”

This isn’t the first time Back has clashed with a current England star. Back in 2015, following England disastrous pool stage exit during their home World Cup, he came to Twitter blows with James Haskell

On the same day that news emerged of a spat between Mike Catt and Danny Cipriani, Haskell responded to Back over criticism for walking around with a selfie stick before the tournament opener against Fiji.

Haskell said in now deleted tweets: “I wasn’t even playing! You’re so old and out of touch your eyes don’t work. I hope your book sales go better than your coaching.”
