A report from England on Monday claims Southampton have opened contract talks with Danny Ings just a year after he signed for the club.
Ings’ sensational 2019/20
Ings, of course, spent 2018/19 on loan at St Mary’s’ from Liverpool.
Southampton then secured Ings’ services on a permanent basis from Liverpool last summer for a fee believed to be £20m.
Since his permanent move down south, Ing has been in absolutely sensational form.
The centre-forward was finally able to see out a full campaign without any injury issues and his displays certainly reflected that.
And despite Southampton having an awful start to the season, Ings was still able to notch a staggering 22 goals and two assists in the Premier League last term.
Said tally saw the hitman miss out on the Golden Boot by a solitary goal.

Ings set for new deal
But whilst Ings missed out on the Golden Boot, his fine form looks set to be rewarded via other avenues.
First up Ings, who has made just one England appearance throughout his career, has earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s latest squad for the Three Lions’ Nations League ties in September.

And on a club level, as mentioned above, Ings looks set to be rewarded for his superb 2019/20 with a new contract.
The 28-year-old has just under two years remaining on his current deal.
But as per a report from Sky Sports News on Monday:
Southampton have begun negotiations with Danny Ings over a new, long-term deal for the striker.
