Scotland international is doing his bit to help vulnerable neighbours

Former Scotland winger Tim Visser has taken to Twitter to encourage members of the public to help vulnerable people during the Coronavirus pandemic.

With social distancing encouraged by the British government, and some people, particularly the elderly or immunocompromised, opting to self-isolate as much as possible, Visser has offered his assistance to local vulnerable people.

HOW TO HELP:

DONATE BLOOD

Blood is always in high demand, but the combination of social isolating and quarantining, plus increased admissions to hospitals, means that a severe shortage could be very possible. Most people aged between 17 to 65 can donate blood, which could be the difference between someone getting the treatment they need, or not.

GIVE SUPPLIES TO FOODBANKS

With all the panicked stockpiling taking place, foodbanks are struggling more than ever with their reserves (before you clear the shelves of hand sanitiser, remember the whole point is that other people need to wash their hands too to prevent spreading).

DELIVER FOOD TO THOSE IN SELF QUARANTINE

Whether they have been in contact with someone who has contracted COVID-19, or are even recovering from it themselves, they would probably appreciate a food delivery.

CHECK ON HOUSEBOUND ELDERLY RELATIVES OR NEIGHBOURS

Instead of popping round – which may increase anxiety if they are worried about catching the virus – pick up the phone to text or (even better) call them. Ask if they need any shopping or supplies and drop them outside if they don’t want to answer the door.
