RB Leipzig drop Timo Werner to Liverpool hint with surprise Tweet

The recent social media activity of Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig has sent Liverpool’s fanbase into something of a frenzy.

Werner in demand

Despite the expectation that the opening of the summer transfer window will be delayed, and the financial restrictions set to be brought about by the COVID-19 crisis, speculation surrounding the futures of some of European football’s biggest stars has continued to swirl of late.

The likes of Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba and Neymar have been hotly-tipped to be on the move this summer, with Manchester United and Barcelona just two of the sides hopeful of securing major reinforcements ahead of next season.

Perhaps the player talked about more than any other in the media, though, has been Timo Werner.

RB Leipzig star Werner has enjoyed a scintillating campaign to date, during which the German has directly contributed to 28 goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances.

This level of production, meanwhile, according to widespread reports, has piqued the interest of Premier League champions-to-be Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s electric front-3 of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino is of course widely regarded as one of the finest on the planet, but, behind this trio, the Reds’ attack is severely lacking in depth.

As such, Werner, who is capable of lining out anywhere across a trident, is seemingly viewed as the ideal addition to Liverpool’s star-studded squad.

‘Support him together’

And, as outlined above, if the latest social media activity of RB Leipzig is anything to go by, then the Bundesliga powerhouse are fully aware of the rumours of an Anfield switch surrounding their star man.

Surprisingly, ahead of the club’s return to action this weekend, Leipzig posted a Tweet, acknowledging Liverpool’s interest in Werner.

The body of the post reads:

‘Liverpool fans, You love Timo Werner. So do we. Let’s support him together!’

This is followed by the hashtag YoullNeverWalkHimHome, a reference to the Merseysiders’ famed ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ chant.

The Tweet in question can be seen below, with a whole host of replies on the part of the Liverpool faithful visible in the comments section:
