President of Gabonese FA urges Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to seek move to ‘more ambitious’ club

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has today been urged to seek out an Arsenal departure by fellow countryman Pierre Alain Mounguengui.

Arsenal standout

Gabonese hitman Aubameyang made the move to north London from Borussia Dortmund in January of 2018.

And to say that the 30-year-old has since gone on to prove himself a hit would be putting it lightly.

All told, across 97 appearances in the red of Arsenal, Aubameyang has found the net a hugely-impressive 61 times, marking a ratio of just under 2 goals every 3 games.

In fact, his 50th strike for the Gunners, which came back in November versus Wolves, saw ‘Auba’ etch his name into the history books of the capital giants:

Aubameyang’s ever-increasing importance to the Arsenal cause, meanwhile, also saw the pacy attacker rewarded in November.

After former boss Unai Emery announced that Granit Xhaka had been stripped of the club’s captaincy, the Spanish tactician opted to name Aubameyang as his side’s new leader.

‘Find his place’

Despite his importance to the Arsenal cause, though, speculation has nevertheless been rife all season that Aubameyang could soon be on the move.

With the Gunners again looking likely to miss out on Champions League football for next season, the African was hotly-tipped for a Barcelona switch this past January, with a fresh Blaugrana swoop in the summer not ruled out.

And, as outlined above, one individual to have today made his feelings crystal clear regarding the possibility of Aubameyang seeking pastures new is fellow countryman Pierre Alain Mounguengui.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Mounguengui, president of the Gabonese FA, was drawn on the future of the Panthers’ star man.

And the African went on to reveal his opinion that, if the possibility arises, Aubameyang should attempt to engineer a move to a ‘more ambitious club’ than Arsenal:

‘I don’t want to say that Arsenal aren’t ambitious, but Arsenal don’t have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned.’

‘So, if Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he would definitely find his place there.’

‘On an individual level, we all consider him to be among the best players in the world.’

‘But the advice I give to him is to continue to work and to attract the attention of the biggest clubs and the most ambitious clubs.’
