“Positive outcome” – Six Nations release formal statement after reports Italy could be dumped

There was a real Six Nations storm brewing following reports that South Africa could replace Italy in the tournament from 2025.

Reaction to the idea has been pretty much overwhelmingly negative since the story broke in the Daily Mail on Wednesday evening.

However, the tournaments official governing body has now rubbished those reports with an official statement.

They wrote: “Six Nations Rugby, comprising the six Unions and Federations and CVC, wish to confirm that they are not entertaining any discussion nor developing any plans to add or replace any participating Union.

” All its energy is focused on the current strategic discussions regarding the July and November international windows and structure of the global season, and to ensure a positive outcome for the development of the game.”
