“Played with real purpose” – Journalist delivers glowing verdict on Man United star’s display

Laurie Whitwell praised Anthony Martial’s performance in Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Watford, during a Q&A on The Athletic.

What did he say?

It was a resounding win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, as they overcame the relegation-threatened outfit thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes, Martial and Mason Greenwood.

This came in a game when they had three times more shots than Watford, held more possession and won six more tackles.

With this considered, there will be plenty of players within the team who are worthy of praise and some fans in the Q&A picked out Martial.

Whitwell agreed with them, stating: “His goal today was really special, and he ran hard and held up the ball well. The doubts come because he doesn’t do it all the time.”

He also added: “He covered a lot of ground today, played with real purpose.”

Impressive performance

The major moment of his performance against the Hornets, which Whitwell mentioned, was his impressive goal.

Martial showed brilliant technique and composure as he plucked the ball from the air, turned and dinked it over Ben Foster’s shoulder.

That is not all he contributed though, as the Frenchman completed two of the three dribbles that he attempted, while also playing one key pass – hinting at the creativity that he showed.

Separating the fairweathers from real fans: How much can you remember about United’s treble season?

He even made a slight defensive contribution which represents the work rate that was mentioned by The Athletic journalist, coming out on top in the one tackle he attempted, while also making a clearance.

Whitwell suggested that there are doubts about him due to the fact that he does not produce this type of performance every week, but there can certainly be no complaints about his display this time around.

Meanwhile, Man United fans drooled over one target’s performance.
