Photos | Review: Tove Lo in Portland, Oregon

Who: Tove Lo

Where: Roseland Theater, Portland, Oregon

When: February 25, 2020

Even with a boot on her leg and initially being limited to performing while sitting in a chair, Tove Lo turned every venue on her Sunshine Kitty tour into a club.

After only a few stops into the tour, she broke her ankle onstage in New York while performing her song “Talking Bodies.” With dates near capacity and several, including Portland, sold out, Tove Lo decided the show must go on and continued her tour.

Portland may not have seen a sitting Tove Lo—limited to the throne she’s been bringing along since breaking her ankle—but it was clear she was the queen of everyone in attendance that night. She was still in a boot but impressively moving and dancing around the stage with ease. Tove Lo’s performance felt as if the room had become a rave with the infectious pop music going, her energetic and sultry dancing, her audience dressed in fun, colorful outfits for the night and matching her energy.

Tove Lo packed her hour-and-a-half set with fan favorites, chart toppers and, of course, songs off her latest record. There were high moments throughout her set as she invited and performed with her opener ALMA, enlisted the help of a background dancer and had an impressive production rig and screen to elevate her performance—all done with a broken ankle.

Already an empowering figure, influencing and preaching body positivity, Tove Lo continues to be an inspirational artist.
