Pep picks out the Man City player he ‘feels so sorry’ for

Pep Guardiola picked out one player who ‘deserves more minutes’ as Man City beat Dinamo Zagreb.

Pep lavished praise on Phil Foden after the starlet came off the bench to score for City.

Man City were dominant throughout but lacked a cutting edge before Raheem Sterling came on in the second half to score before setting up Phil Foden late on to wrap up a 2-0 win over the Croatian champions.

Guardiola cut a frustrated figure for much of the game as City failed to make the most of their chances, and was shown a yellow card in the second half for his remonstrations with the fourth official.

On Foden, Guardiola told BT Sport: “He has incredible finishing and made an incredible step forward (tonight).

“I’m so sorry for him, he deserves to play more minutes. I’m sure he will contribute and help us more.”

Guardiola also admitted that Zagreb were tough to break down.

He said: “They defended very well one on one and were very aggressive. They had 10 players in the box, they didn’t want to play.

“They were waiting for set pieces but we were patient. In the end we had enough chances through our ball possession to score goals.”
