Pep Guardiola gives updates on Man City trio before Port Vale clash

Man City vs Port Vale

Manchester City are set to begin their FA Cup defense this coming Saturday.

City became the first male English side to win the domestic treble last term and that success including a 6-0 hammering of Watford in the 2019 FA Cup final.

Man City’s FA Cup triumph last campaign was the 6th time they had won the competition and they should have no problems getting this cup run off to a positive start against lower-league opposition, Port Vale.

Port Vale are currently languishing in League Two and have never made it past the semi-final stages of the FA Cup.

Guardiola on Laporte, Ederson & Otamendi

Pep Guardiola would hold his pre-Port Vale press conference on Friday the 3rd of January.

During the presser, the Spaniard gave a fairly positive update on Aymeric Laporte.

The central defender has missed much of the 2019/20 season through injury but Guardiola would confirm on Friday that Laporte feels good and will begin completing all training sessions with City in the next few weeks:

“He trained with the team for 10, 15 minutes, the rest individually and he is getting better.

“He feels good and in the next few weeks he will complete all training sessions for us.

“I don’t know (when he will return). He will dictate. How he feels. He was four months out.

“Everything needs a process, but it’s important he didn’t make a step back. (It’s) the same with Leroy and that is really good. Great from the physios and the guys who work with him.” As quoted by Manchester City’s official website.

Guardiola then gave updates on Ederson and Nicolas Otamendi.

The City boss confirmed Ederson trained on Friday and feels better as does Otamendi. However, Guardiola ruled the Argentine out of the Port Vale tie:

“Ederson was sick (against Everton). He came to the game bad.

“Today he (Ederson) trained and he feels better.

“Nico feels better too. Tomorrow he won’t play but in the next days he will be in the squad again. “ As quoted by Manchester City’s official website.
