One West Ham man’s display vs Newcastle shows how monumentally wrong GSB have been – opinion

West Ham United fans were frustrated before their side had even stepped onto the pitch, as their only signing made so far is Tomas Soucek, who was already on loan from Slavia Prague last term.

An even bigger reason is the sale of Grady Diangana, which was pushed through by the West Ham board, usually referred to as GSB, with Mark Noble and various other players showing their annoyance towards the decision.

Many supporters were already furious with the decision, as they made #GSBOUT become the top trend on Twitter in the UK when the move was announced, and the 2-0 loss against Newcastle United won’t have done much to help that.

More specifically, there was a void on the left where fans will feel the quick, skilful and exciting Diangana should have been. Instead, Pablo Fornals operated there and was invisible.

The Spaniard was accurate with his passing, recording an 83% success rate, but he attempted just 18 during the whole game – only Michail Antonio recorded fewer.

In addition, he made one dribble and let off one shot, which was blocked, while managing to complete one tackle and being beaten twice.

For context, Andriy Yarmolenko, who replaced him in the 67th minute, only played two fewer passes and let off three shots, one of which went on target.

For the Spaniard to put in such a quiet performance in the opener will not help Hammers fans get over the loss of their talented academy graduate.

This isn’t necessarily Fornals’ fault, as Diangana’s traits aren’t what his game naturally centres around, but it does accentuate the aforementioned points about GSB’s decision-making.
