Last night, a significant chunk of you would have been at cinemas in various countries, watching the special presentation of Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets Live At The Roundhouse. Followed by an exclusive Q A with the band, that was recorded a short while ago, reaction to the film (and the Q A) has been thoroughly positive.Brain Damage was at the world premiere on Monday evening, at London's Picturehouse Central, which included a nice introduction by Nick Mason before welcoming the rest of the band to join him in front of the screen. Pictures of this are below. For those who are yet to see the film (which is released on April 17th on Blu-ray, DVD, CD and 2LP, as well as digitally) we won't spoil things for you. Suffice it to say that a fantastic job has been done with the recording, and editing, of the Saucers' at the Roundhouse. Whilst some live albums and videos can be quite sterile, LATR has an involving and exciting feel to it. In places there are short interview segments, and these work well in the points of the show when the stage falls into darkness, and instruments are changed. The interview bits give good insight into the project, and only enhance things. You will NOT want to miss seeing this release…it has easily exceeded our hopes and expectations for the live recording.Just for some clarification, we went direct to Sony to check out the situation with region coding on the Blu-ray edition as there is still some confusion or misinformation about it. We have had confirmation from them that the Blu-ray has NO region coding at all, so will be playable worldwide, irrespective of where you purchase it from.ORDERING INFORMATION:You can order the various editions through the following direct links, taking advantage of Amazon's pre-order price guarantee so you will automatically pay the lowest asking price between placing your order, and release, whilst giving Brain Damage much needed help with running costs without costing you any extra. Roger Waters: The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux
Time for another guest contribution: Adamo Prina, who has made a couple of contributions to the site in the past, has been considering the new Redux version of The Dark Side Of The Moon, by Roger Waters (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/roger-waters-the-dark-side-of-the-moon-redux-album-annou.html). As you will know by now, it’s a new take on the classic, not a cover, or a re-recording, but Waters as a 79-year-old mulling over the themes and ideas within the 1973 classic, and realising that much of it holds true today, some 50 years later. Adamo has done his own mulling over of the album, and shares his thoughts below. Our thanks to him, and of course we always welcome contributions from any of you who wish to add their views or analysis of things – if you want to do so, please contact us through the normal address (matt@brain-damage.co.uk). The Prism Glass of an Aged Man’s Memories During the recording of The Dark Side of The Moon in 1972/73, Roger Waters came up with the idea of interviewing the studio staff using flash cards. Some were trivial questions, like “What’s your favourite colour?”, while others probed deeper into the album’s themes, such as “Are you afraid of death?” or “When was the last time you were violent?”. Waters aimed to elicit spontaneous and non-preconceived responses, and integrate them as sound elements in the recording, alongside heartbeats, ticking clocks, and jingling coins. In certain tracks, the voice is clearly audible, such as the words that mark the opening of The Great Gig in the Sky: “I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don’t mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There’s no reason for it, you’ve got to go sometime”. In others, the voices overlap chaotically, as happens at the end of Money, where all answers to the question “were you right the last time you were violent?” blend into an indistinct chatter of mingled voices. Often, these voices are crucial to the musical dynamics, like the words “I’ve been mad for fucking years – absolutely years” that open the album, or the laughter interspersed in the song Eclipse. Though this method might seem marginal, it is indicative of how Waters approached a music album: not just a collection of songs but a cohesive piece, both thematically and musically. With his interviews, Waters wasn’t merely seeking answers but also unifying elements and textures, sounds, and voices to bridge the gaps between songs or to inject unforeseen pathos or evocative content. Consider the words whispered at the album’s end by Gerry O’Driscoll, the doorman at Abbey Road Studios in 1973: “there is no dark side in the moon, really. As a matter of fact, it’s all dark. The only thing that makes it look light is the sun.” When I played the new “REDUX” version, my curiosity led me to immediately drop the needle on the record’s end to see how that iconic voice was replicated. To my surprise, the voice was missing. In his place was Roger Waters responding directly: “I’ll tell you one thing, Jerry, me old mucker. It’s not all dark, is it?”.

Danish celebration for Roger Waters’ 80th birthday
Roger Waters will be turning 80 on September 6th. Still incredibly active, Waters has a huge number of fans and advocates in Denmark. Three of them are performing on Waters’ birthday to celebrate his words, music and activism on a night that combines a one-hour lecture with a 90-minute-long acoustic concert. Thomas Ulrik Larsen, esteemed songwriter, musician, journalist and lecturer, and friend of Brain Damage, opens the program with a talk about Roger Waters’ background, the Pink Floyd years, solo career and Waters’ current standing in today’s musical and political climate. After the lecture Thomas Ulrik Larsen (on vocals and guitar) will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Anders Haarh and singer/pianist Stine Liebman. The trio goes by the name Shrink Freud and plays acoustic interpretations of Roger Waters’ best songs from his Floyd years as well as from his solo albums â both classics and rarities. The venue is Kulturium, which is just south of Copenhagen, and the admission fee is a modest 80 Danish kroner (the equivalent of eight British Pounds). You can get your tickets for the birthday bash at Kulturium.dk (https://kulturium.dk/kalender/event/show/fdselsdagsforedrag-om-pink-floyd.html).

NEW MUSIC: Fat Trout Trailer Park – Wendigo
Like its namesake, ‘Wendigo’ – the new track from post-punk project Fat Trout Trailer Park – will leave you possessed (and a little bloodthirsty). Somewhere in New York, Sean Raab (the mind and body of Fat Trout Trailer Park) plucks peacefully on his acoustic guitar – a gentle melody warmed by his tranquil vocal tone, featuring …
