In an expected move, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets have this morning announced that they have cancelled the brace of concerts they had lined up in Russia as part of their upcoming 2022 Echoes tour. The shows which were to be held on May 23rd at the BKZ Oktyabrsky Concert Hall in St Petersburg, and May 25th at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow, will not take place. The band issued the following statement:
âDue to the current events happening in Ukraine, we are cancelling all of our shows in Russia that were due to take place this summer.
âOur thoughts and support are with all those in Ukraine.â We assume the ticket agents will issue refunds automatically to ticket holders, and any queries should be directed to them for resolution.
Happy Halloween! Regulars to Brain Damage over the years will know that our good friend Joe Ringus is a hugely talented pumpkin artist, and each year crafts a Pink Floyd themed pumpkin for Halloween (a celebration which is embraced by many, principally tonight, but in a number of places it covers a number of days). Those regulars will no doubt be as keen as we have been to see if Joe would be continuing the tradition this year, and if so, what design would be picked. The great news is that Joe has been hard at work yet again, and has done another phenomenal job! We’re delighted to share his incredible carving with you, which is of course a representation of the cover of the Floyd’s Delicate Sound of Thunder. Joe said: “Each year it becomes increasingly harder to come up with a Pink Floyd pumpkin design. However, with this year being the 25th anniversary of Delicate Sound, this design seemed very fitting! Hope you enjoy!” Thanks Joe – we think you’ve done another excellent job! It’s a great tradition and we know many of our visitors love to see them. If there are any other pumpkin artists out there who have created Floyd designs, we’d love to see them. Also, if you have any suggestions for other images Joe could tackle in future years, please contact us at the normal email address of Matt@Brain-Damage.co.uk and we’ll pass on your ideas to him. For those who have missed some of Joe’s previous designs, you can catch up with those from years gone via the other thumbnail (click it to see the designs in greater detail), so you can see what a steady hand, great ideas, and carving talent, results in!
York three-piece King No-One release catchy indie-pop single “Roll of the Dice”. Whatever ‘it’ is, King No-One have it. The x-factor. The ‘je ne sais quoi’. Nevermind their impressive résumé (sold out UK tours, appearances on BBC Radio 1, Reading & Leeds and Truck festival stages, etc.), their music speaks for itself. “Roll of the …
start of March, we noted that the UK’s edition of Classic Rock included a detailed, twelve page article written by Pink Floyd biographer Mark Blake (https://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/pink-floyd-reinvent-themselves-in-new-issue-of-classic-rock-mag.html) taking a close look at life for the band immediately after Syd Barrett left it. The article – now translated into German for that country’s version of the magazine – investigates how the band got back on their feet following Syd’s departure, and shows how they reinvented themselves. Blake details how this came via strange, afternoon shows for school kids in the Netherlands, bizarre promo videos, unusual soundtrack albums, and shows which were rather avant-garde – as well as albums which showed the development of the band’s sound. As ever, Blake’s writing proves enlightening and entertaining, peppered with comments from the musicians themselves. Well worth a read! Elsewhere in the magazine are features on Uriah Heep, Rob Halford, UFO, Thunder, and Suzi Quatro, plus plenty of other articles to keep you busy. The magazine is now available from all good German stores; alternatively, you can buy individual issues (worldwide) from this direct link (https://classicrock.net/produkt/classic-rock-nr-98-rob-halford-bekenntnisse-des-metal-gottes-ausgabe-04-2021/). Our thanks to Michael Nickel for the information!
