Newcastle could move for Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove in the next transfer window, according to reports.
The Scottish Sun say that Mapgies scouts are keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old Englishman.
And a January bid could be on the cards.
Aberdeen had previously agreed to sell Cosgrove to French side Guingamp back in the summer.
A £2million fee looked to have been sorted but the player turned the move down.
However, a switch to the Premier League would surely get his interest.
And for Newcastle, a price in the same £2m region would be a cheap way of giving boss Steve Bruce an extra attacking option up front.
It remains to be seen if they could lure him away from the Dons for that price.
Cosgrove has scoring pedigree
Newcastle have managed just 12 goals in their 10 Premier League games this season.
That left them in 14th place before Sunday’s matches. Newcastle’s game this weekend against Aston Villa was called off due to an outbreak of Covid-19 in the Magpies camp.
So could Cosgrove do a job?
It’s a step up but he’s taken the eye with his goal output north of the border.
The striker has netted 45 goals in 94 games for Aberdeen.
Last season, it was 23 in 37 appearances although this term he’s manged just one in seven after not playing his first match until late October.
He’s seen as a big, combative striker so could hold his own in a more physical league.
Cosgrove moved to the Dons from Carlisle in January 2018. He’d previously been on Everton’s books as a youth before starting his senior career at Wigan.
In the last winter transfer window the forward was linked with Leeds, Stoke and Middlesbrough.
There were even reports suggesting Italian Serie A side Lazio were showing an interest.
