Mesut Ozil reportedly hoping to be involved for Arsenal vs Fulham this weekend

Arsenal vs Fulham

Arsenal are set to return to action this coming Saturday.

Despite having an extremely short break and having already played out the 2020 Community Shield at the end of August, Arsenal’s next tie will be the first of the new Premier League campaign.

The Gunners will welcome newly-promoted Fulham to the Emirates in the 12:30 pm kick-off.

The north Londoners will no doubt head into the tie full of confidence having seen off Chelsea and Liverpool to secure two pieces of silverware last month.

Ozil hoping to feature vs Fulham

One man who did not feature in any of Arsenal’s recent success was Mesut Ozil.

The German had been in and out of Arsenal’s starting eleven throughout 2019/20 when Mikel Arteta arrived.

The Spaniard then seemed to take to Ozil, featuring him fairly heavily pre-lockdown.

However, since football has returned, Ozil hasn’t featured in a single competitive tie for the north Londoners, missing 13 games in total.

With Ozil playing no part for Arsenal and costing the club a reported £350,000-a-week, the Gunners may have been hoping to move the midfielder, who has one year left on his contract, on this summer.

But Ozil’s agent was quick to kill those hopes off back in July, stating Ozil will remain at Arsenal until 2021.

Now, with Arsenal seemingly stuck with the former Real Madrid man for another year, will Arteta give him another chance in his squad?

As per the Evening Standard:

But Arteta is resigned to Ozil seeing out the last year of his contract and brought the 31-year-old back in from the cold in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

Ozil would then post the below on his Twitter account following the friendly vs Villa:

Now, with Ozil seemingly somewhat integrated back into Arsenal’s squad, the ES are also claiming that the German hopes to be involved in Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League tie vs Fulham.
