Mega-money Tottenham exit ‘inevitable’ regardless of Mourinho progress

Tottenham fans have been told to prepare for a key summer exit even if Jose Mourinho is able to secure the riches of Champions League qualification.

Spurs have fallen back to earth after a bright start to the season that saw them top for parts of November and December.

Four defeats in their last five has left them languishing in ninth position. At present, the prospects of securing a top four finish seem slim.

The guaranteed money provided by qualification to European football’s elite competition has taken on greater significance due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Club revenues are down across the board. As a result, many clubs opted to play it safe in the recent January transfer window.

Tottenham were one club who followed that approach. But according to Football Insider, the cost cutting may soon take a new form.

The outlet state they have been told a ‘blockbuster Tottenham player sale is “inevitable”‘ in the summer. That is irrespective of whether Mourinho can oversee a charge into the top four.

Tottenham’s most recent set of financial results saw them announce a whopping loss of £63.9m. With a full season of matches without fans in attendance, a similar outcome is expected in 2021.

As such, a big money sale is anticipated.

Hugo Lloris was recently linked with a reunion with former boss Mauricio Pochettino. Dele Alli, meanwhile, continues to face an uncertain future in North London amid a tense relationship with Mourinho.

The pair are unlikely to recoup major funds, however. This leads to the article speculating Harry Kane or Son Heung-min could be in the mix.

Man Utd wonderkid explains Tottenham snub

Meanwhile, A report in the Daily Mail has revealed why Manchester United starlet Joe Hugill snubbed the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Leeds to head to Old Trafford last summer.

The Red Devils snapped up the then 16-year-old from Sunderland for a fee of just £300,000.

Hugill, now 17, is a centre-forward who is quickly gaining a reputation as a lethal finisher in the Under-23s.

Indeed, in 20 games for the club’s Under-23 and Under-18 sides, Hugill has netted an impressive 16 goals. This included a recent four-goal haul against Liverpool U-23s.
