Man Utd told two ‘top-class’ strikers they should break the bank for

Alan Shearer has named two ‘top-class’ strikers he believes Manchester United should try and sign after watching their goalless draw with neighbours City.

The Red Devils have not struggled for goals against the so-called lesser sides. However, it is a differnet story against their ‘big six’ rivals.

Indeed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have managed just one goal across their fixtures with Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City so far this season.

Shearer believes Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are not making the most of Bruno Feranandes’ creativity.

The Premier League’s record goalscorer also highlighted Edinson Cavani’s age as a cause for concern.

He told Match of the Day: “Cavani, they’ve got him. He’s 34 in February. Greenwood may be that man in two or three years time because he’s got fantastic potential.

“But I think they need a top-class centre forward in this team.

“Greenwood and Rashford should be in and around that six yard box. There’s no one there, no one at all, nothing on for Bruno.

“He needs more options, he needs a forward in there who will put the ball in the back of the net.

“They’ve got to get in there more often. It was far, far too easy an afternoon for [John] Stones and for [Ruben] Dias. That’s what I think they’re lacking and it showed today.”

Haaland or Mbappe the answer

When quizzed on who Shearer thinks United should try and sign, he added very simply: “Haaland or Mbappe.”

Borussia Dortmund’s Haaland and PSG’s Mbappe are the two of the hottest strikers in Europe and have been linked with United in the past.

Both players would demand hefty fees, however, with United recently learning how much Norway star Haaland would cost.

Mbappe, meanwhile, insists that his parents will play a big role in deciding his future.

The France superstar has also been linked with Liverpool, along with Real Madrid – although the Ligue 1 side are hopeful he will extend his stay in Paris.
