Man Utd to battle Chelsea after reviving interest in €40m target

Manchester United have reignited their interest in Juventus full-back Alex Sandro, according to reports.

Sandro has been a long-term target for United, but the rumours have never materialised into a transfer.

However, Calciomercato believe they are back in the hunt for the left-back, as part of a double raid on Juventus.

The Italian outlet claims United are showing a strong interest in Sandro. Even though he is still a regular for Juve, they do not consider him unsellable.

If the Serie A champions were to part ways with him, they would be looking for a fee of at least €40m. The 29-year-old still has three years left on his contract, so despite his age, can still command a high fee.

The only options United have at left-back currently are Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams. In fact, a recent report claimed that if they can’t sign their top target Jadon Sancho for the wing, they would turn their attention to signing a left-back instead.

Sandro could be that man, and according to the report, United are interested in a Juventus winger as well.

Douglas Costa has emerged as an alternative option to Sancho. Reports earlier today claimed United have opened talks with the Brazilian’s representatives – and those links are backed up by Calciomercato.

CHELSEA TO RIVAL UNITED FOR SANDRO?

Man Utd are not the only Premier League club to be linked with Sandro. Earlier this week, reports suggested Chelsea were considering him too.

The Blues are in the market for a left-back in case Emerson Palmieri or Marcos Alonso leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Ben Chilwell is the main target for Frank Lampard, but Leicester are asking for a high price. Therefore, they may have to look at alternatives.

While Sandro won’t come cheap himself, he wouldn’t cost as much as Chilwell. Therefore, Chelsea could pose a threat to United’s hopes of signing the Brazilian.

New Juve boss Andrea Pirlo is ready to reshape their squad, but will need to sell players to fund the signings he wants to make. Sandro is reportedly one of the players he is happy to let go – especially because of his high wages.
