Lost possession 31 times: Liverpool ace’s howler should have left Klopp speechless – opinion

One of Liverpool’s most consistent performers this season, Trent Alexander-Arnold had an evening to forget against Watford on Saturday.

The England international has once again been in inspired form going forward for the Reds, registering a quite remarkable 14 assists in 38 games across all competitions.

But his usually reliable self was nowhere to be seen against the Hornets, with the 21-year-old’s abilities to deliver pinpoint crosses and set-pieces completely deserting him.

As per Sofascore, he lost possession a staggering 31 times over the course of the game – by far the most of any Liverpool player on the pitch at Vicarage Road.

Some of that can be attributed to his wayward crossing, which arguably was the worst it has ever been for the talented right-back. Out of the ten deliveries that he attempted, none of them found its mark, whilst only three of his eight long balls were successful too.

Alexander-Arnold simply didn’t have the best day at the office, and though he saw plenty of the ball with 112 touches, he just couldn’t provide a killer touch, failing to make a single key pass.

When did that happen?! Premier League experts will know which surprising clubs these stars once played for…

It was the kind of display that would have left his manager speechless. After all, this is the man who has effectively redefined what it is to be a full-back in these past couple of seasons with his ridiculous number of assists.

When the Reds were having a poor overall display, Klopp needed someone to be a hero. And even despite being a right-back by trade, Alexander-Arnold is surely seen as someone who can provide a bit of attacking inspiration.

Unfortunately for him, his manager, and the fans alike, the Liverpool academy product just couldn’t stand up to be counted.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to this contract update.
