Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides Jordan Henderson fitness update

Jurgen Klopp has, on Saturday, provided a fresh update on the fitness of Jordan Henderson as we near the return of Premier League football.

Liverpool vs Leeds

Liverpool’s title defence is set to kick-off in just seven days times.

The Reds first clash of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign sees them welcome newly-promoted Leeds United to Anfield.

That tie takes place on at 5:30 pm UK time on Saturday the 12th of September.

Given the game is at Anfield and Leeds have just won promotion, Jurgen Klopp’s men will no doubt be viewed as overwhelming favourites ahead of kick-off.

Despite this, Klopp will no doubt be keen to have as strong a squad as possible available vs Leeds to ensure they begin the new season with a win.

One man whose involvement vs Leeds looks to be somewhat in doubt, though, is Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson.

The Englishman suffered an injury vs Brighton back in early July, which ruled him out for the remainder of Liverpool’s 2019/20 season.

Henderson also missed the 2020 Community Shield clash last weekend and did not feature on Saturday when Liverpool faced Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly.

After leaving him out vs Villa, Klopp has moved to provide a fitness update on Henderson.

And though Klopp admitted Henderson could have only played around 10 minutes on Saturday, he did also reveal that the skipper will likely join full team training on Tuesday:

“Obviously Hendo was desperate to play a few minutes today as well, but it makes no real sense because he had to do an important session today for him.

“If he would have played today, 10 minutes or so would have probably been OK. But that makes no sense. So that was not possible, but he trained in big parts of this week and will probably join full team training next Tuesday.

“Timing-wise, not perfect that he cannot play today, but can train a few days later fully. But that’s how it is.

“We will see how he develops, [there are] a few days until Leeds, how the boys come back from the national teams. A lot of open questions still, but a few hopefully we can answer today.”
