Leicester vs Montpellier player ratings as French win Challenge Cup

The Leicester vs Montpellier player ratings as the French side completed their season turnaround with a Challenge Cup triumph at Twickenham.

Montpellier found themselves towards the bottom of the Top 14 going into February, but followed that up with five league wins in a row prior to losing at Stade Francais with a weakened team last weekend.

A try apiece and a penalty apiece left us all square (10-10) at the break – Vincent Rattez and Harry Wells the try-scorers, with George Ford and Benoit Paillaugue converting and landing penalty kicks of their own.

Jasper Wiese’s try, converted by Ford, initially put Tigers in front after the restart before a Paillaugue penalty and unconverted try from Johan Goosen edged the French side ahead, 17-18.

Despite a late onslaught from Tigers, the French side clinically held out to win the game by a single point.
