Legend answers Georgia call to return for Rugby World Cup

Mamuka Gorgodze was the surprise inclusion as Milton Haig confirmed Georgia’s squad for Rugby World Cup 2019 on Monday.

Legendary back-row Gorgodze – his country’s record try-scorer with 25 – won the last of his 71 caps against Romania in March 2017 but has agreed to return to the test arena following a run of injuries in the Georgia camp.

He is now in line to play at a fourth Rugby World Cup and add to his 11 tournament appearances, albeit this time as a second-row, the position he played at France 2007.

Four years ago he scored tries in the Lelos’ victories over Tonga and Namibia, and was also named Player of the Match following the 43-10 defeat to New Zealand in Cardiff.
