Lampard-related deciding factor named why Sancho could snub Man Utd for Chelsea

A recent report has pinpointed the statistics behind Frank Lampard’s trust in youth as to why Jadon Sancho could elect to join Chelsea rather than Man Utd.

The future of England winger Sancho promises to be one of the hottest transfer sagas of the summer.

Since his departure from Man City to Borussia Dortmund in 2017, Sancho has developed into one of the most feared attacking threats in world football.

His 17 goals and 19 assists across all competitions in the current campaign back that narrative up, but his impressive displays have inevitably attracted the attentions of the Premier League’s heavy hitters.

Despite being under contract in Germany until 2022, Man Utd and Chelsea have emerged as serious contenders to bring Sancho back to England.

Both sides were recently boosted in their efforts when the player himself admitted the time was right to return to his homeland.

The Red Devils gave an update on how much they’re willing to spend on the potential transfer earlier this month, though a large financial outlay has given the club concerns over their public image in a time of national crisis.

Regardless, the latest report from the CIES Football Observatory, (via the Daily Express) reveals that Chelsea may in fact hold the upper hand over Man Utd owing to their increased emphasis on youth this season.

The report notes that Chelsea are ‘leading the way for the percentage of league minutes played by players under the age of 21 up until January 1.’

That has equated to a whopping 23.3 percent of minutes afforded to youngsters this campaign.

The likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount have established themselves as first-team regulars under Lampard, while Billy Gilmour has burst onto the scene and starred in the club’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup.

In contract, Man Utd’s youngsters have been given just ‘13.7 percent of minutes this campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.’

The article admits that Sancho would have no problem breaking into Utd’s starting eleven regardless of what age he is, but state that the statistics ‘give a good indication of the two clubs’ attitudes to youth development,’ and could be a ‘key influencer’ in which route Sancho eventually chooses.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been given a further blow in their quest to retain the services of a veteran forward after the player’s contract situation was described as being ‘dead in the water.’
