Klopp reveals injured Liverpool pair are nearing return; gives Jota update

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool could have Alisson Becker and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back against Fulham.

Klopp has received a double boost on the injury front with midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain and goalkeeper Alisson Becker potentially in line to return on Sunday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been out since sustaining a knee injury in pre-season training, while Alisson has missed the last three matches with a thigh problem.

However, both are back in training and in contention again.

“Oxlade is in normal training, (he has been) doing parts of training now for a week or so,” said Klopp.

“He is now in full training and we will see. The situation probably demands to involve him as soon as possible, but I don’t know if the weekend is that moment already.

“We cannot and will not rush it, but when he’s long enough in normal team training then of course he becomes an option immediately. It’s good, absolutely good.”

As for Alisson, Klopp has confirmed that he will make a final decision after seeing how he gets on in training on Friday.

Caoimhin Kelleher has deputised for the Brazilian recently, but Alisson is the undisputed first choice, and will be back if he can prove his fitness.

Klopp added: “If he trains OK (on Friday) then he can play.”

Doubts over Tsimikas and Jota

While two players may be able to return, another pair could miss the game after picking up injuries in midweek.

Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota both went off in the Champions League draw with Midtjylland.

Klopp has confirmed he will have to assess how they both are before Sunday’s return to Premier League action.

He added: “Kostas, we have to see. Diogo got a knock as well. Nobody else is coming back, I’m afraid.”
