Klopp reiterates Roberto Firmino’s importance despite Jota form / Salah wanted to be quickest to 100

Jota time

Diogo Jota made the surprise move from Wolves to Liverpool in the summer and has 7 goals from 10 appearances. Most recently the Portuguese played at centre-forward and scored a hattrick against Atalanta.

The 23-year-old seemed to fit in flawlessly through the middle, despite having played in wide areas so far this season. The goals were of top quality, finishing with a chip, thunderous half volley and by taking it round the helpless Atalanta keeper. Roberto Firmino looking on with a worried expression.

However, Jurgen Klopp has given the Brazilian hope that Jota will not so quickly take his place.

“Bobby is a really important player for us,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“He gave the club four or five years of his best. He has been unbelievable. Without him we couldn’t win the Champions League or Premier League, he sacrificed himself for the team and the way he plays, he gives us more chances to score.”

“He has been an unbelievable player, inside and outside the field. Whoever plays will give his best because we are a team, we are here to help each other. I’m looking forward to that.”

Not fast enough

Salah scored in the match in Bergamo also which took him to a total of 103 goals for Liverpool. He reached the landmark 100 on his 159th appearance which meant he is the third fastest player to have achieved the feat.

Signed from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian has been by far one of the greatest signings of the Premier League era. Having left Chelsea just a year prior, the rise has been meteoric.

Speaking about the making it to 100 goals, Salah was bittersweet in its description.

“I wish I could be the fastest one! But the third-fastest one is not bad,” Salah said.

“It’s always great to score goals. 100 goals for Liverpool is something really special. I’m always looking for something to really help the team win games, that’s the most important thing: the team’s target. I’m very proud of something like that.”

Liverpool play Manchester City in a title-chasing clash and Klopp has some big decisions as to who starts for the Reds.
