Jurgen Klopp discusses Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ run – ‘It’s a massive deal’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has today opened up on the record-breaking unbeaten run set by Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ in 2004.

Liverpool march on

The Reds travelled to Leicester City last night, for a top-of-the-table Premier League clash.

Many felt ahead of kick-off that a Liverpool win would all but sew up the title for the visitors, with Klopp’s men having incredibly dropped just 2 points all season before their trip to the King Power.

And, when all was said and done, the frankly-staggering form of the European champions continued.

A completely dominant display on the part of the league leaders eventually saw Liverpool come away with a 4-0 win.

Trent Alexander-Arnold proved the star of the show, bagging a goal and 2 assists amid a Man of the Match performance from his right-back berth.

‘A massive deal’

As such, as outlined above, Liverpool’s latest victory means that the Reds have now navigated just under half of the Premier League season without suffering a single defeat.

This is a streak that actually stretches back to the second-half of last season, with Jurgen Klopp’s men now unbeaten in the league in a hefty 35 fixtures.

As a result, speaking during a press conference ahead of his side’s next outing, a meeting with Wolves this weekend, the German was inevitably drawn on the possibility of Liverpool matching or potentially surpassing Arsenal’s famed ‘Invincibles’.

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners of course went an entire Premier League campaign unbeaten in 2003-04, a streak which reached 49 games in total.

Klopp, though, was quick to play down his side’s chances of seeing out the season undefeated, labelling Arsenal’s achievement ‘massive’:

‘It is a massive deal. I’m a while in this business, and if you’d ask me if this was possible… I don’t think so.’

‘I think at Dortmund we had 28 games, and that felt absolutely exceptional, but only in the review. When you’re in the situation it’s different.’

‘I’ve been asked if I see a swagger in the boys when they step on the pitch, but unfortunately, I can’t see anything like this because I am completely concerned about all things in the game.’

‘I’m a very optimistic person but not before a football game. I know we can win it but I’ve never thought in my life that we probably will win it. That makes life really uncomfortable sometimes.’

‘These numbers, I forget them now. If you tell me next time then I’ll be surprised the number is that high.’
