Jurgen Klopp believes Thiago can be ‘like a new signing’ for Liverpool

Liverpool vs Man United

The upcoming weekend’s marquee Premier League clash will of course see Liverpool face Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

These two sides of course maintain a bitter historic rivalry.

Unlike in previous seasons of late, though, when one or both sides haven’t been at their best, Liverpool and Man United, this time around, are both viewed as genuine title contenders.

It is actually the latter who will head into the match at Anfield sitting at the Premier League’s summit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side saw off Burnley on Tuesday, lifting them three points clear of 2nd-placed Liverpool.

United are also one of the league’s in-form sides right now, with their opponents this weekend actually winless in three league outings.

Jurgen Klopp and co., though, have looked much better at home this term, and have not lost a Premier League tie at Anfield for some time now.

As such, Sunday’s clash is shaping up to be one of the biggest of the season so far.

Klopp on Thiago

Ahead of the tie, Jurgen Klopp has been discussing Thiago.

The Spaniard, of course, joined Liverpool over the summer in what looked set to be a solid bit of business.

However, due to a combination of injuries and Covid-19, Thiago has hardly featured for the Reds this term.

In fact, Liverpool’s recent loss vs Southampton was the first time he had completed 90 minutes since the middle of October.

But the Spaniard is now clearly building up fitness and should probably be involved this weekend as well.

And when speaking about Thiago pre-Man United, Klopp voiced the opinion that he can be like a new signing for the club:

“To put the pressure a little bit off the situation I said we should sign Thiago in the window [as a joke]. Now he is here, let’s hope he stays like this for a long, long, long, long time.

“The most important thing is he is fit and he trained. He had 90 and 45 minutes in the last two games. We will see if he can play and which position he can play because there are different options.

“But it is really good to have him around now. He is a really good guy and an exceptional football player. It is like a new signing.”
