Jose Mourinho has heart set on Spurs after turning down job offer

Jose Mourinho has turned down an approach from Lyon to manage the Ligue 1 side, according to a report.

The French side are on the look out for a new boss after Sylvinho was axed, with outspoken Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas setting his sights on Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach though, who was sacked by Manchester United last December, has turned down the opportunity with RMC reporting that the 56-year-old has his heart set on another job in the Premier League.

Mourinho apparently made it clear that his focus is on returning to management in England, where his family currently live, and Lyon will now turn their attention to former Laurent Blanc.

It is understood that Mourinho is looking at the Tottenham manager’s job, as speculation over the future of Mauricio Pochettino rages on.

The Daily Mail suggest Mourinho is open to the idea of replacing Pochettino should the Argentinian leave.

Mourinho said in the summer he had to be “patient” and wait for the right job after turning down offers from Benfica and Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.

Mourinho told Sky Sports News: “I have some time to think, to rethink, to analyse and what I feel is exactly that ‘Ze’ (Mourinho’s nickname as a boy) is full of fire.

“My friends tell me ‘enjoy your time, enjoy your July, enjoy your August, enjoy what you never had’. Honestly, I can’t enjoy. I am not happy enough to enjoy.

“I miss my football, I have the fire.”
