James Ducker delivers major update on Ed Woodward’s Man Utd future

According to The Telegraph’s James Ducker, Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, is determined not to leave the club amid mounting fury.

What’s the word?

In unsavoury scenes from earlier in the week, footage emerged of Woodward’s home being attacked by a mob of United fans who threw flares over the gate.

The 48-year-old has been the target of intense criticism from Red Devils supporters for his apparent role in the club’s decline in recent years, with the recent FA Cup game against Tranmere seeing fans voice their feelings inside the stadium.

Despite the increasing anger, Ducker has revealed Woodward is adamant he will “not be driven out” of the club, and that he is “more determined than ever to oversee a renaissance”.

Boiling point

Make no mistake about it, the attack on Woodward’s home certainly felt like a seismic moment in the 48-year-old’s time at Old Trafford. He has often been slammed for his work at the club, but that has largely been restricted to criticism on social media and more peaceful fan movements inside stadiums like the one at Tranmere.

But the incident on Tuesday evening has raised things up a notch in terms of the situation. Whilst it was only a handful of ‘supporters’ that carried out the attack, it nevertheless represents the kind of fury and anger that has been building up. So whilst Woodward’s reported stance on sticking at it, is admirable, it may not be the right, or even safe one.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans are swooning over this man’s inspired display against Man City.
