In Conversation with Aimee Broom

Only 15 years old and Aimee Broom is already one of the top up-and-coming artists in the UK. We speak with Essex-based Aimee about her new single ‘Summer With You’, discovering new music and much more!

Why did you decide to enter the music industry?

I decided to enter the music industry because it’s the thing I love to do more than anything else. My mum passed her singing genes onto myself and my sister which obviously had a massive influence on choosing this industry. I just can’t imagine waking up every day wanting to do anything else.

Can you tell us about ‘Summer With You’?

‘Summer With You’ was inspired by one of my all-time favourite films ‘The Notebook’. I wanted to write about a summer romance like the one shown in the film. We got to include all the cliche couple activities, which was really fun to do.

What was the recording and writing process like?

The recording and writing process was really enjoyable as the inspiration was a fun summer love which we tried to incorporate into the lyrics and backing. The process of writing was really fun as we got to include all the typical couple things which in any other song may sound a bit cringy. I’m hoping it comes across as more romantic. We weren’t going to let lockdown stop the creativity so, with the help of Zoom calls and a very busy group chat, we managed to finish the song. I’m over the moon with the final results.

Does the single have any significant meaning for you?

The single has aspects of significance to me as I wrote about a film I completely adore. Hopefully, it becomes significant with anyone who listens to it as the aim of the song is to make people just feel happy.

What do you hope people take from your music?

It’s not meant to be a deep, meaningful song, but I just hope any listeners feel happy when they hear my music. I can’t think of a better feeling than putting a smile on someone’s face. Whether they can relate to the song or not, I just hope people hear it and want to get up and dance.

What is more challenging for you – melody or lyrics?

I would personally say I find melody much more challenging. I’ll always give it my best shot, however, lyrics come more naturally. I love that with lyrics you can find really unique ways of telling a story and I love exploring that.

How do you keep yourself motivated?

It’s honestly really easy for me to keep motivated as I’m really passionate about it and absolutely adore what I do. Music has always been my greatest outlet and I enjoy it more than I can explain. If I ever get stuck with a song, I find it really helpful to listen to other artists to inspire me.

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as upbeat and fun. I love an emotional ballad as much as the next teenage girl, however, I wanted my music to lift people up and make them feel happy. If it does that, then that’s a pretty big accomplishment.

What do you think is the best way to discover new music?

I’m not really sure because there are so many platforms now. I usually discover music on the radio or through Tik Tok, but honestly, there are so many ways such as playlists or recommendations.

What does the future hold for you?

I’m not really sure what the future holds. Pursuing music has always been my dream and I want more than anything to succeed at it. Right now, I’ll continue to work with the brilliant Safo Music and meet new, like-minded people to help me on this journey. I’ll carry on writing and making music and just hope that people love whatever I create.

Do you have a message for our readers?

My message to the readers would be no matter who you are or what you do people are always going to find something to be negative about. As long as you do what makes you feel happiest, then that in itself is success. Also, help a girl out and stream ‘Summer With You’.
