Ferdinand fuming with Man Utd loanee Henderson after Sheff Utd error

Rio Ferdinand has criticised Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson for his part to play in Sheffield United’s last-minute exit from the FA Cup.

The Blades exited the competition on Sunday after losing their quarter-final tie with Arsenal in second-half stoppage time.

On-loan Henderson rushed out to close Dani Ceballos down in the area, but the Gunners midfielder stroked the ball past the goalkeeper to send the visitors to the last four.

Speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand said he would be “very upset” if he was a Sheffield United defender.

“I spoke about this a while ago. As a defender I would be very upset with the ‘keeper there,” the pundit said.

“I’m saying to the keeper ‘the front post, nothing goes through the front post.

“The goalkeeper union might suggest something different but when I was playing that was how I used to feel.”

Arsenal took the lead in the first half when Nicolas Pepe beat Henderson from the penalty spot.

David McGoldrick equalised late on in the second half after Arsenal failed to clear the ball from their area.

However, Ceballos popped up late to book Arsenal’s spot in the semi-finals, where Manchester City await.

City thrashed Arsenal 3-0 earlier this month at the beginning of the Premier League’s restart.

Pep Guardiola is targeting a second FA Cup after City officially lost their grip on the top-flight title.

HENDERSON’S FUTURE UNCLEAR

Dean Henderson TEAMtalk

United loanee Henderson has shown his potential worth to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Premier League.

The Englishman has kept 11 Premier League clean sheets this term, the joint-best record.

And while Solskjaer has claimed Henderson will become United’s number one goalkeeper in time, it is unclear where his future lies next season.

David de Gea is the first choice between the sticks and Solskjaer has maintained the Spaniard’s record as “the best goalkeeper in the world”.

However, De Gea’s form has dropped significantly in the past 18 months.

Indeed, his error against Everton in March meant he had conceded seven errors leading to Premier League goals since last season.
