Fantasy Football: Tottenham star dropped for in-form Villa midfielder

Our man Dave Tindall takes on the Premier League’s Fantasy Football game and will give you some healthy tips each week on who could do the business to boost your points total.

The Premier League was back with a bang last weekend, with Manchester United hammering Chelsea, a hat-trick for Raheem Sterling, late drama involving new boys Sheffield United and Arsenal actually looking defensively sound.

Dave has opted to tweak his side for Gameweek 2, with some mouthwatering clashes to come, including Tottenham’s trip to Man City, Liverpool travelling down to Southampton and Wolves hosting Man Utd – to name but a few.

Gameweek 1 – 87pts

A pleasing start. 87 points puts me second in the league. Mo Salah did a good job as captain, his 12-point tally doubled to 24 after a goal and an assist against Norwich while Raheem Sterling waded in with 20 points after his hat-trick at West Ham. A goal for Virgil van Dijk and clean sheets for Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio, Everton’s Lucas Digne and Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira, who actually banked me 9 points due to 3 bonus points for being the best player on the pitch v Wolves apparently.

League position: 2nd

Raheem Sterling TEAMtalk

Week 1 breakdown (4-4-2):

Goalkeeper: 6pts

Defence: 25pts

Midfield: 52pts

Forwards: 4pts

Well, I pumped money into the midfield and scrimped on the strikers (Josh King and Diego Jota) so no surprise really.

Gameweek 2

Free Transfers: 1

Fixtures

Arsenal v Burnley
Aston Villa v Bournemouth
Brighton v West Ham
Everton v Watford
Norwich v Newcastle
Southampton v Liverpool
Man City v Spurs
Sheffield United v Crystal Palace
Chelsea v Leicester
Wolves v Man Utd

Plan of action

Lucas Moura; Erik Lamela TEAMtalk

As usual, I already want to bin off three or four players but have just one free transfer. I’m not particularly keen to have three Liverpool players in given their gruelling 120 minutes in the humidity of Istanbul on Wednesday. An away trip to an energetic Southampton on Saturday is far from ideal. They also look a bit dodgy in defence at the moment. Also tempted to beef the strikeforce up. Kane? Away to Man City. Maybe not. Rashford? Away to Wolves; he scored there in the FA Cup last season. Aubameyang could be the one but I can’t really get him in at £11.0 without a major reshuffle involving probably three transfers and that would mean -8pts (-4 for each one on top of my freebie). Right, with Spurs at Man City, I’ll take out Lucas Moura (£7.5m) and bring in Villa’s John McGinn, who netted at Tottenham last weekend. The Scot looks a snip at £5.5 and gives me £2m in the bank for next week’s transfer activity. I’m hoping for an immediate return from McGinn with Villa at home to Bournemouth.

Out: Lucas Moura (Spurs) – £7.5m

In: John McGinn (Aston Villa) – £5.5m

Gameweek 2 team

Rui Patricio (Wolves) – Man Utd (H)
Ricardo Pereira (Leicester) – Chelsea (A)
Lucas Digne (Everton) – Watford (H)
Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) – Southampton (A)
Andy Robertson (Liverpool) – Southampton (A)
Youri Tielemans (Leicester) – Chelsea (A)
John McGinn (Aston Villa) – Bournemouth (H)
Raheem Sterling (Man City) – Tottenham (H)
Mo Salah (Liverpool) – Southampton (A)
Josh King (Bournemouth) – Aston Villa (A)
Diego Jota (Wolves) – Man Utd (H)

Subs

Maarten Stekelenburg (Everton) – Watford (H)
Matteo Guendouzi (Arsenal) – Burnley (H)
Josip Drmic (Norwich) – Newcastle (H)
John Lundstram (Sheffield United) – Crystal Palace (H)

Captain: Raheem Sterling. He’s scored five times in six games against Spurs. And, of course, there’s last week’s hat-trick.

Vice-captain: Mo Salah. Scored a beauty at Southampton last year.

Final thoughts

It’s as you were really with 10 of the same starting XI as last week. Guendouzi (3pts last week) is a bench option so I’ll promote him to first outfield sub. Still have a niggling feel that Liverpool may struggle but, hey ho. Let’s go.
