Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool to battle Man City, Barcelona as Real Madrid step aside in Mbappe hunt; Chelsea confident of signing Bayern star

Liverpool and Manchester City have been presented the chance to sign Kylian Mbappe, while Chelsea are growing confident of winning the race for a Bayern Munich defender – all in Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk.

REAL MADRID BACK DOWN IN MBAPPE HUNT

Real Madrid could drop their interest in Kylian Mbappe because the total costs of the deal could eclipse €200m.

That’s according to Le Parisien – and the news could give hope to two Premier League clubs.

Mbappe is out of contract with PSG in 2022, and it appears he wants a fresh challenge. Real Madrid had been a leading candidate to sign him in 2021.

However, it is now claimed that they will not make a move for the French World Cup winner. The report claims their financial situation means they cannot afford to buy Mbappe.

The forward would want a pay-rise from his current wages at PSG, while the cost of the transfer would be one of the most expensive in history.

Madrid have been trying to cut costs as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and that means they will not be able to afford Mbappe.

It could be a huge missed opportunity for them, but they have little choice. With several other clubs in the hunt and Mbappe keen to move on, it could have been a now or never situation for Madrid.

According to the latest claims, it could in fact be ‘never’. Madrid may have to turn their attention elsewhere when their finances return to normal, as Mbappe could have already moved to a different club.

There is even a chance that such a club could be in the Premier League.

Liverpool, Man City vying for Mbappe

Indeed, the report adds that two clubs that have not been put off in the battle for Mbappe are Liverpool and Manchester City.

Two of the richest and most successful clubs in recent times in the Premier League, Liverpool and City could go head-to-head for the former Monaco starlet.

However, they will face competition from another La Liga suitor, as Le Parisien add that Barcelona have joined the race to sign him.

That would be an even bigger blow for Madrid, as they would not want to see their top target end up wearing the colours of their rivals. However, they cannot compete with the three clubs at present.

Therefore, Liverpool and City will have one less suitor to face if they are serious about signing Mbappe in 2021.
