Eddie Jones responds to reports he’s set for crunch talks with the RFU

Eddie Jones is facing crunch talks with the Rugby Football Union chief executive, Bill Sweeney following England’s dismal Six Nations.

Telegraph Sport has revealed that a clause exists in his current deal that could see him axed following their sudden loss of form.

Asked if his future was in doubt on Sunday, Jones said: ‘That’s not the question at the moment. That’s for other people to answer, not for me to answer.’

Asked if finishing fifth was unacceptable, Jones replied: “You know it’s not [acceptable]. You know it’s not. We’re disappointed, very disappointed.”

He did, however, go on to express confidence he could turn things around as he did in 2018. “There’s no reason that we won’t,” he said. “I think that teams come through these periods of time and you come out of it far stronger than you were before.”

RFU sources have indicated to RUCK that a knee-jerk reaction will be avoided.

He has clearly handed the potential egos of what is something of a ‘galactico’ squad – could this translate into success with England if he took the role?
