Eddie Jones finally issues Owen Farrell update after Tonga win

England head coach Eddie Jones has finally given a Owen Farrell update after he missed today’s win against Tonga.

The men in white launched their Autumn Nations Series with an 11-try demolition of Tonga in front of a sold-out Twickenham.

The 81,000 back for the first time since March 2020 were treated to five first-half tries from the hosts.

The dominant performance came after captain Farrell was unable to play because of a positive test, but Jones was still unsure when his player will be available.

Owen Farrell update:

“It’s very clear and very simple. We are just following the regulations and protocols and are awaiting further guidance,” Jones said.

“It is not my decision, it is Public Health’s, so we leave it to them and we are just waiting. We have done everything we are supposed to do.

“We knew 100 per cent he wasn’t going to be involved this (Saturday) morning and in terms of when he’s going to get out, if you could give a ring to Public Health England that would be most appreciated.”

Rugby Pass 5/10: “Denied the opportunity to play the Springboks during the summer, the Gloucester man got off to an awful start here, fumbling all before him in the atrocious conditions. Although he threatened the SA line on one occasion, it was a game that largely passed him by.”
