Dowling on verge of huge West Brom blunder in £6m “great talent” who’s “going places” – opinion

West Bromwich Albion are closing in on another summer signing and it’s one that many at the Hawthorns will recognise…

What’s the word?

According to The Athletic’s Steve Madeley, the Baggies are poised to re-sign attacking midfielder Filip Krovinovic on loan from Benfica for a second spell.

They claim that an agreement is increasingly likely after a significant breakthrough in discussions this week.

Slaven Bilic is a big fan as he can play a multitude of midfield positions, and he’s thought to be a very popular member of the dressing room too.

Although the temporary switch is ‘heading towards’ a straight loan without any obligation to buy despite being linked with a £6m move earlier this year.

Risky business

And that could be the greatest risk that Luke Dowling makes this summer.

Albion have seen exactly what Krovinovic has to offer after he provided three goals and two assists whilst averaging 1.4 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

It took until after Christmas to see him regularly, but he soon became an integral part of the promotion winners and if he has another good season in the Midlands, the Baggies will be stuffed as he’ll be free to join any other interested team or maybe even return to Portugal.

If he takes to the Premier League like lightening, then Bilic has no advantage when it comes to next summer.

The Croatian’s assistant Danilo Butorovic believes the 25-year-old “is going places,” calling him “underrated” as well as a “great talent.”

Whilst earlier this summer Football Insider pundit Noel Whelan claimed getting Krovinovic back at the Hawthorns would be an “absolute bargain” and Bilic is very desperate to land him.

As good as this move it, it could well be tarnished by the fact that the Baggies will be left without any obligation – or even an option – to buy. That’s something that could come back to haunt them this time next year.
