Christian Eriksen heading back to London as shock Prem suitors offer tempting deal

Christian Eriksen is reportedly closing in on a sensational return to Premier League football with a move to Brentford nearing, claims a trusted source.

The attacking midfielder made over 300 appearances for Tottenham between 2013 and 2020. He helped the club to establish themselves as top-four regulars and reach the Champions League final in 2019. He is firmly established as a modern legend of the north Londoners.

Eriksen swapped north London for Milan two years ago, with Inter paying just shy of £17million for his services.

The player went on to represent Denmark at Euro 2020 but a hugely-worrying collapse in their game against Finland overshadowed the tournament. After having an internal defibrillator fitted, which goes against Serie A rules, Inter agreed to end his contract.

Now a free agent, Eriksen has been linked with a number of Premier League sides.

However, it is Premier League newcomers Brentford who have won the race for Eriksen.

The news, as per The Athletic’s Bees reporter Jay Harris, claims Thomas Frank’s side are on the brink of an announcement.

He writes that Brentford are offering Eriksen an initial six-month contract with the option of a further year after.

Clearly the deal is designed so that Brentford can take a low-risk look at the 29-year-old again after his health scare.

And should the deal suit all parties, an option to extend his stay is already in place.

Clearly the Denmark connection has also paid dividends for the Bees. Their manager, Thomas Frank, has a growing reputation both in the Premier League and his homeland.

Christian Eriksen agent provides welcome update

Eriksen has been training at Swiss outfit Chiasso to keep his match fitness since his release at Inter.

And earlier this month, Eriksen’s representative Martin Schoots reported the player was ready to return.

“It is going really well for Christian,” he stated.

“He had all the checks just before Christmas. The results were so good that we expect him to be involved in a group training with a team some time later in January.

“But I would prefer Christian to talk about this himself and he will do so very soon.”

Schoots added: “Christian is very ambitious. Italy is one of the only countries with these regulations.

“In other countries it is very different. His contract with Inter has been terminated and now we can look forward.”
