Chelsea target Said Benrahma indicates he could stay with Brentford if they win promotion

Chelsea & Said Benrahma

It’s the final day of the Championship season on Wednesday, and Brentford take on Barnsley at Griffin Park.

Brentford are third in the table on 81 points, while West Brom are second on 82 points.

The Bees could have overtaken the Baggies last weekend in the race for the second automatic promotion place, but they lost 1-0 at Stoke last weekend, ending an 8-game winning run.

The Times have spoken to Brentford winger Said Benrahma before the Barnsley game, and the following information is provided on Premier League interest in the Algerian winger:

There is a growing sense that Benrahma will be in the Premier League next season.

He was the subject of a rejected bid from Aston Villa last summer, and now Chelsea are among the interested parties.

Stories linking Brentford’s Said Benrahma with a possible summer move to Chelsea have been around for several weeks.

Back in May, Algerian news outlet La Gazette du Fennec reported that Chelsea were looking to sign Benrahma.

24-year-old Benrahma is under contract with the Bees until 2022.

While Chelsea are circling, Brentford fans will be hoping that Benrahma remains at the club next season.

And Benrahma has now offered optimism that he could stay with the Bees if they win promotion to the Premier League.

On the topic of his future with Brentford, Benrahma said:

I was really flattered (by rumours of Premier League interest) but I am so focused about getting out of the Championship with Brentford that I do not pay too much attention.

It gives me confidence and I am flattered, but it is focus, focus, focus.

I don’t look at it as my destiny but it has always been a target of mine to play in the Premier League, and I really wish to do it with Brentford.

Do Chelsea need Said Benrahma?

Chelsea fans may wonder if the club need to sign Said Benrahma.

Winger Hakim Ziyech has already joined Chelsea from Ajax, and he’s poised to play on the flank next season.

At the same time, Christian Pulisic has cemented his place in Frank Lampard’s team since the restart.

Also, Timo Werner will also be at Chelsea next season. The German striker has often been deployed on the left-side at RB Leipzig.

While Callum Hudson-Odoi is waiting on the sidelines for his chance to shine.
