Chelsea make contact with Barcelona over Philippe Coutinho move – Sport

Could Coutinho return to the Premier League this summer?

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Barcelona over a potential summer move for former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian hasn’t exactly had a great time since leaving Liverpool.

Coutinho joined Barcelona back in 2018 for a fee that could reportedly reach £142million.

Though, he made 76 appearances before being shipped off to Bayern Munich on loan.

While that looked to be a new beginning for Coutinho, there’s no guarantee that Bayern will take up their option to buy at the end of the season.

That means that Coutinho would have to find a new club or return to Barcelona.

Now, according to reports, Chelsea could give Coutinho an escape route.

Chelsea make contact with Barcelona

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Chelsea have made contact with Barcelona over a move.

They claim: ‘Chelsea have already been in touch with Barça to ask about the conditions of a loan next season with an option to buy.’

They also explain that Chelsea have contacted the player to find out his plans for the future.

Sport also report that no one is willing to pay Barcelona’s 90 million euros asking price for Coutinho.

Though, Chelsea are willing to take him on loan for a season, costing them £30million.

Barcelona have also ‘ruled out bringing Coutinho back to Camp Nou for a second chance’

With that in mind, Coutinho’s hopes of an exit could rest on Chelsea.

Sport do suggest that Bayern could yet ask to extend Coutinho’s loan in Germany.

Though, they feel their €110million option to buy is ‘excessive’.
