Chelsea closing on club-record Jadon Sancho deal – Sun

A report from Duncan Wright of the Sun has suggested that Chelsea lead the chasing pack in the race for the signature of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

Sancho’s meteoric rise

19-year-old winger Sancho proved one of the talking points of European football last season.

The English youngster, who made the move to Borussia Dortmund from Man City in the summer of 2017 for £8 million, built on the potential that he showcased at the Westfalenstadion in 2017/18 with a string of sensational displays over the course of the campaign.

The pace, trickery, eye for goal and creative flair possessed by Sancho have seen him rise from exciting but raw prospect to one of world football’s most highly-regarded starlets.

In total, last season, the blistering wide-man racked up 13 goals and a hefty 19 assists across all competitions.

The early months of the new campaign, meanwhile, have seen Sancho’s production reach even more impressive heights.

Despite it only being December, the 11-time capped English international has already notched 12 goals, to go along with 13 assists.

Chelsea bound?

As such, Sancho’s stellar form in Germany has inevitably seen the teen linked with a potential return to the Premier League.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been named as expressing an interest in the Dortmund starlet.

As per the aforementioned report from the Sun, though, a clear front-runner appears to have emerged in the Sancho sweepstakes.

The outfit in question? Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

The Blues are said to be preparing a bid which will satisfy the hefty £100m+ demands of the Dortmund hierarchy, a sum which would also see Chelsea break their club transfer record.

Sancho is reportedly viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge.

A January transfer, as things stand, looks extremely unlikely, though, with Dortmund keen to hold onto their crown jewel until at least next summer, to aid the club’s bid for this season’s Bundesliga title.
