Burnley look to Ligue 1 star as Chris Wood exit sees Dyche spring to transfer market

Burnley are keen on Lens midfielder Seko Fofana, per a report, as they look to put the money received from the Chris Wood sale to good use.

The Clarets are in a tough situation at present, having not won a Premier League game since October. Indeed, poor results have left Sean Dyche’s side within the bottom three.

In addition to the poor results, the sale of Chris Wood, who started every league game this season, creates further worry.

Obviously, Burnley want to do everything in their power to avoid relegation from the Premier League. As such, they will look to put the £25million gained from the sale of Wood to good use.

A report from The Daily Mail states that the Lancashire side are keen on Fofana, from Lens.

The Ivorian midfielder had a spell in England previously, playing youth football at Manchester City, before being loaned to Fulham. Fofana played 25 times for Fulham, scoring just one goal, in the Championship.

While his previous spell in England left much to be desired, Fofana’s career has been on the rise at Lens. In fact, the 26-year-old won Ligue 1 Player of the Month in September, and has bagged five league goals this term.

The midfielder looks to be a decent addition to the Turf Moor outfit. What’s more, he is valued at £14million, meaning Burnley should have cash left to make further squad improvements.

However, Fofana is also wanted by Leeds and Newcastle, among other European sides.

Furthermore, a deal might not be as straightforward as Burnley would hope.

In other news, Burnley are one of a host of sides interested in Hamilton Academical defender Jamie Hamilton.

The defender is not short of options, as he has admirers across both England and Scotland. As such, it looks as if he will get a move at some point soon.

Liverpool are reportedly the club with the strongest interest in the Scot.

However, Burnley are among the sides considering a pre-contract offer for the defender.
